Rich’s Tryphosa, Raspberry Flavor
A sample box of raspberry Rich’s Tryphosa, a “delicious gelatin dessert.” Other available flavors included strawberry, lemon, orange, wild cherry, peach, pineapple, chocolate, vanilla, and mint.
Rich’s Tryphosa was mainly available in New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, beginning around 1900. Despite the boastful claims on the package (“This tempting delicacy is perfect in every respect”), Tryphosa didn’t seem to take; newspaper advertisements for the product disappeared by the end of 1922.
